The idea of an art car is not new as it was invented by Hervé Poulain, racing driver and auctioneer. He was the instigator of the art cars, and started a series of BMW Art Cars. Their first car was the 1975 BMW 3.0 CSL “Batmobile” painted by the American artist Alexander Calder. Poulin raced the BMW in Le Mans 1975 together with Jean Guichet and Sam Posey, although they did not finish the race.

Thereafter Poulain had some more race and street BMW created by artists such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein a.o.

As the seventy year historical commemoration of Porsche draws to an end we thought that it was a fitting homage to make an art car. As art cars have been made in the past we thought it be interesting to have an “live art car” project meaning that the car will be painted live, during the opening of the 70 year Porsche exposition in Autoworld Brussels. Live art is not only interesting as it is performed live, but is also new, it has not been done previously on a car.

We brought together some interested parties that wanted to create this NEW type of art. So the director of Autoworld Mr. S. De Baere, was immediately won for the idea. Also Mr. B. Vander Haeghen from the likewise named underwriter firm Vander Haeghenen Co. Damien form Dam’s Grafix was material in placing a film on the car and in getting “Louves” (*) involved in the project. The matt white film can be considered as the canvas on which the artist makes his painting. This idea was carried over on the car so that the two lady artists could perform the Live art on the canvas (car). Also Ab2e was contacted to make a ‘time lapse’ presentation. The car is part of the JFD collection and the 911motorsport company was responsible for the technical support for the project.

So the grand unveiling of the project will be done on December 13 th (the grand Gala evening that will open de exhibition in Autoworld).
